Introduction
In the age of digitalization, photobooks continue to captivate us with their unique charm. Reading a photobook is not just a process of viewing images, but a journey into the creative process of the photographer. The design and arrangement of each page reflect the photographer’s thoughts and emotions, allowing readers to feel the stories conveyed through the images.
Lumenvisum has always been dedicated to promoting photobook culture and established the “Hong Kong Photobook Festival.” As we prepare for the third festival next year, we aim to encourage more people to explore this creative medium of photography art. In the “German Photobook Exhibition”, we will focus on outstanding photobooks from Germany, giving Hong Kong audiences the opportunity to appreciate works from diverse cultural backgrounds and to gain a deeper understanding of the stories and concepts behind them.
The “German Photobook Exhibition” will showcase nearly 200 excellent works from the “German Photobook Prize / Deutscher Fotobuchpreis 2023/24” and the “Dummy Award ’24.” These works not only demonstrate the innovation and diversity of contemporary photobooks, but also reflect how photographers use images to explore personal and international issues. Each photobook is an independent work of art, carefully curated and produced, allowing every viewer to find inspiration and resonance in the process.
About the Partners
German Photobook Prize / Deutscher Fotobuchpreis
The German Photobook Prize honors the best photobooks in the German-speaking world. Founded over 25 years ago, it was organized by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association until 2016 and by Stuttgart Media University from 2017 to 2022. In October 2022, the organization has been passed to the initiators of the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS OF PHOTOGRAPHIC PICTURES. From 2023, the prize will be awarded annually in Regensburg, with a touring exhibition across Europe and Asia.
Dummy Award
The Dummy Award, formerly known as the Kassel Dummy Award, is an international competition that celebrates the best unpublished photobook dummies each year. Starting in 2023, The PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, alongside its sponsor and partner MAS Matbaa in Istanbul, has taken over the award and guide it into a successful future.
