Lumenvisum is proud to present “Cyther” A photo exhibition by Hong Kong Master Photographer, Cheng Chick Woon. Cheng is a photographic master in Hong Kong during the 1950’s; he recorded the life of poor people and their living environment through camera and contributed to society. Lutheran World Federation delivered his photos to different countries and raised funds; the photos were touch and shock and received lots of donations for poor. In order to help poor people to earn life by themselves, Cheng started teaching photography skill in 1958 and later on opened the whole-day photography class in Kwun Tong Vocational Train Centre; his teaching was very strict but with all heart, aimed to train students to be professional. Nowadays, many of his students are working in different areas included press, publishing, media, advertising industry, television station, liberal profession and so on.
The exhibition divides into two parts. “Cyther” will show the pictures about the life of Hong Kong in the days of 50’s and 60’s. These pictures captured how people lived in wooden huts and the living of children and workers. These made us feel that even in poverty you can be satisfied with what you have and be happy. Also there will show Cheng photographs in story format warning people do not take drugs. Cheng professional and his words always kept in his students mind; In “Student Response Exhibition” Cheng’s student will use photography to pay their respect to Mr Cheng.

Established in 2007, Lumenvisum is a registered charitable arts organization in Hong Kong. Being Hong Kong’s only art space encompassing education, cultural exchange and resources in photography, Lumenvisum dedicated to promoting photography by organizing photo exhibitions, artist talks and photography courses regularly; our facilities consist of an exhibition gallery, a library and a photographic darkroom.
